Let’s face it, we’ve all had those moments when we look in the mirror and think, “Damn, I look good!” But most of the time, instantly, when we pass by a mirror, that little voice in our head chimes in with a list of flaws that starts with our hair and ends on the toes.
Well, today, I’m sharing with you the ways I shut that voice up and start embracing my inner and outer beauty. Why? Because you were born beautiful. You are still beautiful today, and it’s time you started paying attention to yourself.
Beauty starts within, and self-love is the key to unlocking that radiance that’s just waiting to shine through. So, let’s dive into five ways you can practice the art of self-love and start living your best, most beautiful life.
1. Give Yourself a Break Already!

We’re all our own worst critics, aren’t we? It’s like we have this internal drill sergeant constantly barking orders and pointing out every little mistake. Well, it’s time to give that sergeant a vacation. Better yet, fire them! Next time you mess up (because we all do), take a deep breath and remind yourself that you’re human. Perfection is overrated, anyway. Instead of beating yourself up, try saying, “Of course!” That’s the way we give ourselves understanding for whatever happened. I used to post “of course” notes around my house so I would be reminded to be nice to myself. Trust me, it works. It silences the voice that has nothing else to do than put ourselves down thinking it was helping.
2. Pay Yourself Compliments (and Mean Them!)

When was the last time you looked in the mirror and genuinely complimented yourself? If you can’t remember, it’s been too long. Start making it a daily habit to give yourself at least one sincere compliment. It could be about your appearance, your skills, or your personality. “Hey, your hair looks great today!” or “You crushed that presentation at work!” The more you practice positive self-talk, the more natural it becomes. And before you know it, you’ll be your own biggest cheerleader.
Don’t be those women who can’t recall their qualities. Find five things now and pad yourself on the back.
3. Accept Your Body (It’s the Only One You’ve Got)

Our bodies are incredible machines that carry us through life, yet we spend so much time criticizing them. It’s time to flip the script. Instead of focusing on what you want to change, start appreciating what your body does for you. Is it your hair, breasts, stomach, hips, or legs? Each part of your body has an important function improving the quality of your life. Love them! Love them all deeply. Your body is a wonder, so treat it with the respect and love it deserves.
4. Give Yourself Time to Rest (You’re Not a Robot)

In this hustle culture, we often feel guilty for taking breaks, naps, or “veggie” on the couch. But here’s the truth: rest isn’t just important; it’s essential. Your body and mind need time to recharge. So, schedule some downtime in your calendar and treat it as seriously as you would any other appointment. Whether it’s a bubble bath, tanning in the yard, or just sitting in silence for 15 minutes, give yourself permission to rest without feeling guilty. Remember, you can’t pour it from an empty cup.
5. Set Healthy Boundaries (Because You Matter)

Learning to say “no” is one of the most powerful acts of self-love. It’s not about being selfish; it’s about recognizing your worth and protecting your energy. Start setting boundaries in your personal and professional life. It might feel uncomfortable at first, but with practice, it becomes easier. And the payoff? More time and energy for the things that truly matter to you and bring you joy.
Here’s the thing about beauty – it really does start within. When you love yourself, treat yourself with kindness, and honor your needs, it shows. There’s a glow that comes from within, a confidence that radiates outward, and suddenly, you’re not just beautiful – you’re magnetic.
So, the next time someone asks what you’re doing, you look different, be confident, and say, “Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful; I am just loving myself.”
Practice these five steps of self-love and watch as your inner beauty blossoms into an undeniable outer glow.
